SOLVE-CHD is one of the inaugural NHMRC Synergy Grants, bringing together a national team of researchers and clinicians to modernise secondary prevention care after heart disease.
By advancing data infrastructure, developing technology-driven interventions, building research capacity, and fostering an international collaborative network (450 members from 20 countries), the program aims to reduce mortality, rehospitalisation, and healthcare costs across Australia.
At the Deakin Food and Mood Centre, Professor Adrienne O’Neil is a Chief Investigator on SOLVE-CHD, and Dr Sarah Gauci is the Victorian SOLVE-CHD Postdoctoral Researcher. Through this partnership, we are exploring how dietary and lifestyle approaches can enhance recovery and mental health after cardiac events.

Co-design and Lived Experience at the Deakin Food and Mood Centre
At the Deakin Food and Mood Centre, we believe the most meaningful research is shaped by the voices of those it seeks to serve. To ensure lived experience is at the heart of our work, Dr Sarah Gauci is our Lived Experience and Community Engagement Lead. We are establishing a co-design program that actively involves people with lived experience of mental and physical health conditions in setting research priorities, informing study design, and guiding translation activities.
Through workshops, consumer advisory groups, and collaborative partnerships, we are fostering a research culture where community perspectives drive our research priorities.
